Best time to travel around Thailand and how much will i need?
December 17th, 2009 | by admin |im going travelling round thailand next year and we want to go when the weather nice but not baking – what time of the year is the best time to go?
How much will i need on average per day? how much is accommdation/food/drinks (inc alcohol) ?
did you have fun – any advice?
The best time to go is probally December or January.
Or even this time next year, July is quite hot but not too hot.
I usually go in July.
The average person would probally need £10 – £20 per day.
Alcohol is very cheap. Sometimes cheaper than soft drinks!
Beers usually cost roughly £1
Accommdation – It depends. If you want somewhere cheap to stay, there are hotels for 250 baht (£5) per night.
But you get what you pay for.
Food can be cheap too. Depends where and how much you want to eat.
Thailand is good ![]()

Between October – Febuary is the best time to visit Thailand b’cuz it wouldn’t be too hot.
But I’m not sure about money becuase I’m from Thailand but it’s not gonna be more than 20 $ a day if you’re careful using money.
Did I have fun ? hmmmm….. I’m enjoying now hahaha

Thailand is amazing!! You will love it! I am so jealous. I just got back for the second time two months ago and want to go back!
I have been in May and April, and its very hot! Scorching hot. But u get used to it and its awesome. Nov-Feb is the most popular time to go. Also, it is considered the "high" season so it is the most expensive. It is significantly cheaper to go during April/May.
Average per day, (without shopping), budget 20 Canadian dollars. If you eat like a backpacker you will pay about 1-2 dollars per meal. If u want to sit in a restaurant on the beach every meal, u will pay about 5-6 dollars. Beer and coolers are about 1 dollar from the 7-11. And at restaurants about 3-4 dollars.
The infamous "buckets" are 5 dollars each. And two will be MORE than enough for a fun fun night.
Accomodation can be anywhere from 3 dollars a night (for a shack with shared washrooms and a fan), up to 20 dollars a night for private washrooms with Air Cond.
Feel free to email me regarding anything. I "backpacked" the first time I went, and the second time lived like a king the second time.
Enjoy your holiday!!

Even now is a great time to visit.
It’s raining every other day for a couple of three hours.
November – April is the most convenient climate wise for most westerners but you also have more tourists.

My partner and I went for 5 weeks October/Novemeber it was wet season but very beautiful in the South islands, i think it was the busiest time of the year, we mostly backpacked for 3 weeks and did 5 start hotels for about 2. Took buses and trains everywhere, and flew once from Bangkok to Chang Mai. The total of the trip was around $4000 AUD and i think about $2000 was spent on food and alcohol. It is very very cheap. To give you an idea. In the last 2 weeks our wallets were stollen and we had around 500Baht left in cash with no access to anymore money. We lasted comfortably for the remainder of the two weeks
(Approx $25 AUD) It can be done very cheaply!

Everybody else gave great answers – Around November-March is the best time as far as weather. But that’s the "peak" season so there will be more tourists, and the hotels all charge more.
If you want to experience some good holidays, look into "Loy Krathong" which usually takes place in November (changes every year, based on the moon) and of course, New Year’s.

I would recommend Dec to Jan, as it is consider as winter here, not really winter but slightly cooler as the wind are blow from the north, at least the wind feel a little bit cool and less rain
Budget to spend a day…..the more the better, for me approx USD100 to USD150 a day for a enjoyable holiday, that is inclusive of a 3 star hotel
Fun – I enjoy Thai massage a lot and I love Hollywood Club in Ratchada, just search of it in youtube

The months to avoid are definitely April to May/June. On those months the temperature is quite hot nearly everywhere in Thailand except up on the Hills over Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Mae Hong Son.
The Indian monsoon ( from South-West ) start in July up to September. It is affecting the West coast where are located Phuket, Krabi, Pha Ngan and the North where are located Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Mae Hong Son.
So if you travel in July to September, you can enjoy good weather on the East coast where are located Pattaya, Koh Chang, Hua Hin, Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao.
The Chinese monsoon ( from North-East ) start in October up to December and is affecting mainly the gulf of Thailand where are located Pattaya, Koh Chang, Hua Hin, Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao.
Expect April, May and June you can go any month to Thailand. It depend the location you will visit.
Definitely January, February and March is a good period to visit every location of Thailand because of the cool season.
Thailand offer a so vast variety of accommodations and places to eat that it is a great place for every pockets.
Accommodations start as low as 10 US $ a night up to several hundreds dollars for 5 stars hotels or resorts.
An average room in a 3 stars hotels will cost around 30 US $ a night in most place in Thailand.
One important think to consider:
In Thailand most of the hotels, resorts, a bungalow places will charge the same rate for the room even if occupied by 1 or 2 persons. So if you share your room with a friend will cost you exactly half price.
Regarding meals they can be very cheap if you eat local food in Thai restaurant can cost as low as 1 US $ for a meal.
If you eat at the hotel restaurant or Thai restaurant for foreigners in a touristic area, you will pay at least 3 times more for a dish.
A bottle of 375cc beer will cost you 1 US $ at the supermarket up to 3-4 US $ in the Hotels, Pubs, Discotheques and upper class restaurants.
Wine is quite expensive in Thailand. I don’t know the price but it is definitely more expensive than in Europe.
If you eat western food is quite expensive. A good steak made with imported beef from Australia cost you up to 15 US $.
A pizza from an Italian restaurant cost up to 8-10 US $
Transportation in Thailand are quite cheap if you travel by bus or by train. There are also several low cost airlines which connect most Thai cities and they offer great fares.
On this website http://www.axolotlvillage.com you will find many useful information regarding Thailand and a good selection of hotels and resorts. Read the hotel guest comments to find the right place for you.
One last tip: This year in Thailand there are very few tourists compare to the previous years. I’m guessing because of the world crisis, not many people are able to travel. For this reason nearly all the hotels and resort are offering discounted rates, sometimes one third of the full price. But there is a little trick…
If you search through the Internet, you will find great deals a discounted rates, but if you go directly to the hotels without a reservation, they will probably charge the full rate ( walk in rate ).
I suggest you to reserve the room by Internet, you can reserve even for just one or two nights and then you can check the rates by yourself once you’ re there. If the hotels rates are more expensive, you can then book again from Internet.
I wish you a great time in this great country.
