The 3rd Phuket Thailand Open powered by PTT, penultimate stop on the Swatch-FIVB Womens Beach Volleyball World Tour will again be held on Karon Beach, Phuket from 4 – 9 November 2008. The tournament which offers prize money of US$175000 has attracted entries from the worlds leading professional beach volleyball teams to what is regarded as one of the biggest beach volleyball tournament in Asia, according to organizers Pentangle Promotions. A total of over 70 of the worlds leading beach volleyball teams from up to 30 countries are expected at the tournament. Thailand as the host country is allocated 2 teams in the main draw and up to an additional 4 teams will participate in the qualifying rounds. The 2007 title holders at the Phuket Thailand Open powered by PTT are the current World and Olympic Champions Misty May-Treanor and Kerry Walsh of the USA. Both semi-finals on Saturday 8 November and the final and 3rd/4th place play-off on Sunday 9 November will be televised live on national NBT TV and the Sports Channel in Thailand plus on Eurosport and in the USA.
