There are a lot of good pictures from Krabi at
http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=krabi
I especially like the Chicken Island.
http://www.gokrabi.com/ also has good info.
I also enjoy this site, http://www.asiaexplorers.com/thailand/krabi.shtml
Krabi name is either from the sword story (krabi = sword) or flower named Lumphi that foreigner mispronounced.
Some says it was the oldest settlement in Thailand!!
Have fun and good luck
References :
Ask for access to amartial arts school of Krabi Kabong...the art from which (Muay Thai) Thai boxing is taken . Krabi Kabong is to Muay Thai what The UFC is to high school wrestling. Then ask if they would let you join. Whatever they choose to share with you will stay with you for the rest of your life.
History, culture, discipline, compassion, cuisine, heritage, ancestry...man what an education.

Oh yes, they will expect you to be rude, with no sense of courtesy or respect or honour...and a whiner to boot. Try to disappoint them at every step of the way. Ten weeks with those gentlemen is spending time in a temple, living in a village, going through boot camp, going to college and exploring parts of yourself you did not know you had...all at the same time. It might make you a better american...but it will definitely make you a better man...for the rest of your life.
References :
Go see the ancient ruins at Angkor Wat. Temples and Monks there. TaProhm Trees grow amongst ruins. Ruins of Khmer Temple...Must see the legacy of Pol Pot in Cambodia....who wanted to eliminate anyone with an education whether religious or scientific in the 1960's & 1970's. Hundreds of thousands of Cambodians now inhabit Thailand because of this tyrrant. You might want to do a key word search for the reign of Pol Pot. Please create a 360 or Flicker Site of your trip! Have fun!
References :
Boyfriend travelled there.
