How much spending money will a couple need in Thailand for two weeks over Christmas & New Years?

My partner and I are flying from the UK to Bangkok on Christmas day. We are in Bangkok for three days, and then we fly north to Chaing Mai for another three days. The final part of out holiday is going to be spent in Phuket.

All accommodation and flights are paid for, we are staying in four and five star hotels. We have breakfast provided for us in Phuket but the rest of our meals will need to be paid for.

We would like to soak up the culture and see some of the sights. We also are desperate to go on an elephant trek through the forest.

Bearing all of this in mind, how much would you estimate that we will need for our holiday?

Is government tax on service charge in Thailand?

Hi,

I would like to find out the taxation in Thailand? I noticed that there are additional service charge and taxes for the hotel: 10% service charge, 7% government tax, 1% provincial tax. Is the government tax on service charge? Please advise

How to dial a phone number in Thailand from USA?

I have called various phone numbers in Bangkok before, but I am not having luck dialing a phone number for a hotel in Hua Hin. The number is listed on the hotel’s website in this form:

+66 (032) 123456

I typically add a prefix to the number of 011. But I get a dialing error everytime I try it. Any ideas?

Do I really need to book a hotel, or can I just walk around bang kok or phuket and just find a cheap place? Never been and dont care too much about staying in a nice place. Just need a bed. Could you also recommend any popular attractions, places to go?

Hi me and my husband are planning on going to thailand but the cheapest flights seem to be to Bangkok, so which resort can you recommend from there?How far is the resort?Do you know which buses or who I can book a transfer from airport to resort?Do you know of any good hotel websites for hotels in thailand?What sort of prices will you pay for food and drink in bars and restaurants?What sort of prices for taxis and buses?
Can you find restaurants there that cater for english people
such as grilled chicken breast,pizza,chips etc?

We are looking for privacy in the accomodation preffering private pool, ocean view, a lot of activities to do it & also will be great to move between differnet hotels or resorts.

I am going to all the above countries. I hope to spend a year in Asia with my boyfriend and was wondering how much we would need for a year moneywise. We stay in cheap hotels and eat resonably cheaply and dont only go to the tourist resorts. We get goverment buses too. We do smoke though and we drink. We are planning to only spend a couple of weeks in malaysia and the rest of the year everywhere else.
Can anyone give us any idea on how much we will need to take?

My travel agent suggested Ban Talay Dao Resort and Casa del Mare Resort. I am going with my brother so I am looking for something nice but not too romantic and very close to the beach. Prefer to be away from crowded areas, if possible. We’re going in December 2006 (the week before Christmas).

First visit to Thailand with family – budget places?

Hello friends,
I’m planning to take my parents and my 16-yr old brother to Thailand. I want to stay 3 days in Bangkok and three days in Pattaya.

Question 1: Accomodation

I have a very tight budget… can’t spend more than 2000 baht a day on accomodation (for all 4 of us). I’d love to hear advice on good guesthouses and hotels in decent areas. Nothing fancy or frilly… but tasteful and quaint places that showcase Thai culture would be great. I am scared of getting accommodation in a “seedy” location… my uber-conservative parents (who had never gone out of India till now) will surely kill me, lol.

Question 2: Itinerary

Day 1 – Chinatown
Day 2 – Bankgok Canals tour
Day 3 – Temple Tour + shopping
Day 4 – Nong Nooch village
Day 5 – Temples + Tiger Zoo
Day 6 – Coral island

Do the above scedule cover the major must-see places? Any more suggestions on what I should never miss in Thailand?
