do i need a visa to holiday in thailand?

November 29th, 2009

do i need a visa to go on holiday to thailand for 2 weeks?

It depends on what country you hold a passport with. If you are from the USA, Canada, or western Europe you won’t need a visa for 2 weeks in Thailand. Your status is visa exempt for 30 days. Your passport will be stamped with your arrival date and date you must depart Thailand.

What effect would past travel to Thailand have on obtaining a security clearance?

November 29th, 2009

If one has gone to the entertainment centers in thailand, would that have any effect on obtaining a security clearance ? Would they want a detailed accounting of such trips ?

Foreign travel is not flagged unless it is unusual.

What is unusual?

Lots and lots of trips to Thailand will make them want to know why.

If you’ve only been there a few times, AND have traveled to other places as well, it will not stand out as much. You were simply very interested in Asian culture. Right?

If you’ve only ever been to Thailand, multiple times, for short periods, they’re going to ask you what you find so interesting there. They’re not stupid. Unless you have a valid, reasonable reason, for such a pattern of activity, they’ll be suspicious as to your intent while there.

That being said, most agencies aren’t looking for Boy Scouts. Some misbehavior, as long as its not blatantly illegal, is in the past, and doesn’t include recent excessive drug use, can be overlooked as long as you can show that it was a part of your past, and that you have no intention of repeating it.

What’s the best deal on accomodation in Koh Samui, Thailand?

November 29th, 2009

We are going to Koh Samui for our honeymoon in December this year, (one week in the low season before Dec 15 and two weeks in the high season after Dec 15). We are looking at paying around 1,700 baht per night. We want to stay in a nice resort, close to the beach – either Lamai or Chaweng. So far it looks like the Sand Sea Resort is the best price for what we are looking for. (Though the rooms are small and have no tv or bathtub.)

Has anyone gotten a better deal to stay in a nicer room or a nicer hotel on Koh Samui?

Thailand Travel Doc – Part 07

November 25th, 2009

The Kingdom of Thailand is an independent country which lies in the heart of Southeast Asia. The country is bordered to the north by Laos and Burma, to the east by Laos and Cambodia, to the south by the Gulf of Thailand and Malaysia, and to the west by the Andaman Sea and Burma. By the maritime boundary, the country is bordered to the southeast by Vietnam in the Gulf of Thailand, to the southwest by Indonesia and India in the Andaman Sea.

The capital and largest city of Thailand is Bangkok. It is also the country’s centre of political, commercial, industrial and cultural activities. Bangkok is known in Thai as “Krung Thep Mahanakorn,” or, more colloquially, “Krung Thep.”

Thailand is considered to be the world’s 50th largest country in terms of total area, with a surface area of approximately 513,000 km² (198,000 sq mi), and the world’s 20th largest country in terms of population with approximately 63 million people. The population consists 80% of Thais, 10% of Chinese, and 3% of Malay. The rest are minorities such as Mons, Khmers, and various hill tribes. The country’s official spoken and written language is Thai.
